Suppose you were an idiot and suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself. — Mark Twain
I've often felt the only difference between what have been termed "Radical Islamists" and "Moderate Muslims" is that the radicals are actively trying to kill Americans while the moderates only support them and raise the money that keeps them going.
There is another category of people that I am convinced fits the above description. Here are some examples of their behavior:
House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), third in the line of Presidential succession, traveling to Syria, a country that the U.S. broke off diplomatic relations in 2005. Syria supports Iran and al-Qaeda and is trying to develop nuclear weapons, with North Korea's assistance, in order to destroy Israel. The U.S. Constitution implicitly gives the President the authority to conduct foreign policy. In order to make that responsibility explicit, in 1798 President John Adams initiated the Logan Act, which forbids any American - "without authority of the United States" - to communicate with a foreign government with the intent of influencing that government's actions in any "disputes or controversies with the United States." Violation of the Logan Act is a felony. Pelosi arguably committed a felony when she traveled to Syria and whispered behind closed doors with Bashar al-Assad, Syria's terrorist-loving leader. Upon conviction, an offender can be sentenced to prison for up to three years.
Next we have Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) on Thursday, April 19, 2007 declaring, "this war is lost." Never in the history of this country has the leader of the US Senate declared a war lost while American troops are still in combat in that war. Reid does have supporters for his statement. I'm sure he found solace three weeks later on May 5, 2007 when a supporter of his statement said, ". . . a U.S. congressional bill calling for a troop withdrawal from Iraq was proof of Washington's defeat" and, ". . . . This bill reflects American failure and frustration." But that supporter, Al Qaeda's second-in-command Ayman al-Zawahri also went on to say, "But this bill will deprive us of the opportunity to destroy the American forces which we have caught in a historic trap."
And now, most recently, we have Democrat Rep. Pete Stark of California on October 18, 2007, in the House of Representatives saying:
"You don't have money to fund the war or children. But you're going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old, enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the president's amusement." And,
"The truth is that Bush just likes to blow things up in Iraq, in the United States, and in Congress."
Sound familiar? The "Moderate Democrats", if there is such a thing, keep their mouths shut while supporting their "radical brethren." Not a single Democrat stood up to object to these statements of Starke! Not even when he said when kids were old enough they would be sent to Iraq to "get their heads blown off for the president's amusement."
Don't expect to see Starke's comments receive much coverage from the left leaning news media. I searched Associated Press and Reuters for coverage of the incident and found nothing. Only Fox News had coverage on the air and on their website. Now you know why Liberal activists are stepping up their campaign against Fox News Channel by pressuring advertisers not to patronize the network.
MoveOn.org, the Campaign for America's Future and liberal blogs like DailyKos.com are asking thousands of supporters to monitor who is advertising on the network. Once a database is gathered, an organized phone-calling campaign will begin, said Jim Gilliam, vice president of media strategy for Brave New Films, a company that has made anti-Fox videos.
The groups have successfully pressured Democratic presidential candidates not to appear at any debate sponsored by Fox, and are also trying to get Home Depot Inc. to stop advertising there.
At least 5,000 people nationwide have signed up to compile logs on who is running commercials on Fox, Gilliam said. The groups want to first concentrate on businesses running local ads, as opposed to national commercials.
With the honorable exception of Fox News, the news media, "Radical Democrats" and "Moderate Democrats" pose more of a threat to the U.S. than does "Radical Islamists" and "Moderate Muslims". If you can't see that, or don't believe it, then you too are part of the problem.
