2004 Red-Blue Electoral Map

The President won 286 electoral votes to Kerry's 252 - - 31 states to Kerry's 20 - - 51% to Kerry's 48% - - and a plurality of 3,497,546 votes. President Bush is the first President since 1936 to win both the popular vote, the electoral vote, AND gain seats in the Senate and House. President Bush's party also now controls a majority of the state governorships and a majority of the state legislatures. Maybe just as importantly, Senator Daschle, the Democrat minority senate leader [known as Mr. Obstructionist], was also defeated by a Republican. This is the first time this has happened in 50 years!
