Bring water to boil in large pot. Add beer, hot pepper sauce, seafood seasoning, salt, sausage, potatoes, and onions; boil for 10 minutes.
Add corn and continue boiling for 5 minutes.
Add shrimp and asparagus, turn off heat, and let shrimp steep in pot until they turn pink.
Drain and serve with butter and cocktail sauce. Traditionally served by dumping drained pot onto a newspaper-covered picnic table where everyone helps themselves.
Note: If using frozen shrimp and frozen corn, cooking times are about the same.
